As they head to the happiest place on earth, there are some tears as loved ones say goodbye, but for the kids there's no real time to think. It's full steam ahead. After taking off from Calgary, there's a heroes welcome at LAX with fire hoses at full blast.
The 767 donated by Air Canada for the day, may have just landed, but the dream day ahead for these kids is just taking off. Be it flying on Dumbo, or spinning on the Mad Tea Party, this day is all about the magic of the moment.
"Many of these children would never get a chance to be in Disneyland. We cater to kids that don't have the opportunity; that are mentally, physically, socially, challenged are terminally or chronically ill," said Lucille Parkinson an organizer with Dreams Take Flight.
Here's ten year old Darrell Wood-Schmidtka's take on it all: "we went on rides, rides, rides, lunch, autographs, meetings, get stuff, rides, rides, rides, now we're here." Adding that the trip to Disneyland was the best day of his life. About eighteen hours, later the kids and volunteers arrive back at Calgary airport exhausted but appreciative of a dream come true.
