It costs 7 million dollars each day to operate the health care system in Calgary. But even with all that money, hospitals in Calgary are overcrowded and understaffed.
Calgary Health Region CEO Jack Davis says we have to be creative with the funding. "Let's look at some creative ways. Let's work with the private sector."
The current major addition to the Rockyview Hospital is being financed directly by the Alberta Government. That's the traditional way of paying for your health care, but the CHR is hinting that's about to change.
"Private financing may be on the table," Jack Davis is talking big banks. "The investment community internationally is always looking to invest in Alberta because of the strength of the economy and the strong position of the government. So again, we would have to look at the merits of the deal."
If it was a good deal and if the provincial government approved then the Rockview hospital of the future might not be strictly financed by taxpayer dollars.
