The rising cost of oil is affecting how much we pay for food, heat our homes and fill up our vehicles and now the it means more when we fly.
WestJet is the latest airline to adopt a fuel surcharge to recover their biggest expense: jet-fuel.
"A 60% increase in your single biggest cost line in four months makes it really difficult to recover, " says Richard Bartrem, VP of Culture and Communication.
In order to try WestJet is adding a $20 charge on a short haul flight, a $30 surcharge on a medium haul and a $45 surcharge on their long hauls.
WestJet officials assure their guests they will monitor the cost of oil and if it goes down the surcharge will disappear but if the cost continues to soar the surcharge could go up.
