LRT Follow-up for Reroute
NIMBY, Not In My Back Yard, threatens to delay the proposed C-train line... again.

The city will move forward with its new version of the LRT's west leg.  The revised plans will go to committee on May 21st, despite concerns from residents. However, there are others who think the city is right on track.

The C-Train commute is part of Kathy Irwin's daily routine.  It's a service she had to do without, when she lived in the community of Sunalta.
"It was very inconvenient I had to rely on leg work and late buses," says Irwin.

That very issue is at the center of debate for the people living in Irwin's former community, which is the proposed site for the west leg of the LRT.
Following an invite only meeting with the city, Scarboro and Sunalta residents, along with others say they're not convinced.
"A social concern, building a train through an established community that's 100 years old," says Peter Rishaug, spokesperson of the Best West LRT Committee. "We need to figure, the impacts of how people, cars and community life is impacted," he says.
It's not the first time the communities of Sunalta and Scarboro have gone head to head with the city. Residents rejected the idea of a halfway house to be built in Sunalta last year.
"It's always a not in my neighborhood kind of thing," say Irwin.  "I think it's unfair to other residents."
The city department responsible for the new line says it would save commuters six-thousand vehicle trips a day.
In a bid to secure the project, the city's latest version reduces a portion of the c-train to ground level to appease residents concerned about track elevated above their homes.
