Overflowing garbage? Dial 3-1-1
With one simple phone call to 3-1-1, Calgarians can play garbage man without getting their hands dirty.

Thanks to a new initiative to keep Calgary Clean to the Core the city is placing 100, 3-1-1 stickers on garbage bins along the 7th Ave LRT C-train line in an effort to encourage people to call the number when the bin is full.

Alderman Joe Ceci said the plan allows Calgarians to play an active role in keeping the city clean.

"Anytime anybody can see that a garbage bin is overflowing all they have to do is call the number and the city will come and empty it," he told reporters.

Ceci believes the pilot project will be popular because he has many people from his ward calling in reporting overflowing garbage already.

Commuter Sandra Bihelck thinks the plan is a good idea and said she supports anything that will help keep the city cleaner.
