The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre Opens
A new interpretive centre opens at the site of the famous landslide that destroyed a town.

- - - STORY CONTINUES BELOW IMAGE - - -
Over one hundred years ago, 90 million tons of rock and debris rolled down from the side of Turtle mountain, wiping the town of Frank off of the face of the Earth. The settlers had long ignored the warnings of the local First Nations people and built the town at the base of the mountain, only to have the immense disaster not only kill many people who lived in the town, but complete obliterate the town site itself. Now, a new interpretive centre has opened on the site with answers to some questions, but not the one remaining question. Turtle mountain is still unstable and will again have a gigantic slide, but no one knows when.
