Leading the city in going green, Mount Royal College is making recycling more convenient than ever as students head back to school this week.
Spearheaded by fourth-year bachelor of Applied Policies Studies student Tami Rothery, the Mount Royal Sustainability Committee (MRSC) partnered up with the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC).
"I think for me the most important thing from this is showing that one person can make a difference, and it's true - they can," Rothery said.
Specialized recycling bins for indoor and outdoor have been placed around the campus and vice-president of academic for the college Robin Fisher hopes other schools follow suit.
"This is a perfect example of thinking globally and acting locally," he said. "Recycling and sustainability has always been important to Mount Royal especially as we continue to grow."
The ABCRC donated 55 durable outdoor bins and 50 indoor bins to the school. President of the ABCRC Guy West said they hope to work with other post-secondary schools in the province.
