It is a lengthy process, but the results are very cuddly.

For Your City Alexandra Bell
Open up one of Tracey Kuffner's children's books and you might be surprised by what you find inside.
The Brooks, AB author and illustrator doesn't use felt pens to colour her drawings, she uses felt... made from sheep's wool and lama fur.
"You're just laying out raw wool. I dye it first and then I sprinkle it with soap and water on top and I roll it in a bamboo blind, and that combination of soap, water and agitation causes all the fibers to matt themselves together," says Kuffner, as she describes the fiber art process.
Kuffner says, "I think that this art form is just really versatile and wonderful and I hadn't seen it in any books where the illustrations were done using felted sheep's wool."
The unique process is a time consuming one. Kuffner spends hours working on individual pages and hand-dyes all the wool. Currently, Kuffner is working on her third book and hopes to complete it by April.
