Glenmore Construction is History
Motorists got an early Christmas present yesterday when they set to the roads and found Glenmore Trail back to normal, no construction and an 80km/hr speed limit.

Construction on the busy roadway initially began in 2005, while work on the first phase was finished in 2007; the rest was completed this week, making it the largest infrastructure project in the city's history.

"These projects were a massive undertaking. Calgarians have shown incredible patience and support during construction, and are finally able to reap the benefits," Mayor Dave Bronconnier said.

Glenmore Trail is an east-west causeway that has 140,000 commuters daily, including Ken Smith who was happy to see the six-lane road back to normal.

"I don't drive it everyday but when I do it's a hell hole. So far it looks a lot better though," he said.

But Brian Lahody drives the Glenmore twice daily and says while he is happy it's finished, he still thinks it could be better.

"I think it sucks you can't get to Glenmore east from 5th street where I live," he said. “But it's good it's finally done."
