Relaxation, Anyone?

I’m not complaining....I promise! But over the last few weeks Lio and I have been busy getting our house packed and ready to move by the end of the week. I am so excited about the move…but not thrilled about the fact that we’ll be displaced for a while. Hey, Mom and Dad if you’re reading this…could you please turn down my old bed? Lio, Sidney and I will make the trek back to Richmond Hill while our new house undergoes renovations.

Aside from the packing, and the moving and the changing of the daycares and the address switches and the work engagements I am of course several weeks pregnant. Halfway there in fact (expected due date August 24th) which is truly a blessing but also makes this whole process that much more draining.

Okay so where am I going with all of this?

With everything going on at home I thought it was high time I took a weekend all to myself, with the company of my closest girlfriend of course. What do you do when you’re stressed to the max, your toddler has developed an attachment to your neck and you are all of a sudden coughing up a lung with a sore throat? You head to the spa! Not just any spa though -- Ste Anne’s Spa in Cobourg. Possibly the most relaxing two-and-a-half days I have ever spent anywhere in my life. Yep, it’s that good.

It all started Friday afternoon when Sandy and I jumped on the Via Rail to Cobourg. We just sat back and watched the scenery go by for an hour. When we arrived at the train station a car was waiting to pick us up and drive us to heaven! You may be thinking “Well of course a car picked you up bigshot,” but honestly, the car service is open to anyone who buys this particular package. I say it’s worth it to feel like a rock star for 20 minutes. So we get to the spa which is nestled among hundreds of acres of serene land. No high rises, no fast cars, no McDonalds. It was so quiet. We are checked in right away, given a quick tour and led to our room – the Cynthia Agatha (see pictures).

I have to admit, I was a little frightened about the food situation. Lately I am so hungry I could eat my pen and I kept thinking of teeny-tiny cucumber sandwiches and lemon water. It is a spa. But the food was plentiful and very well done! This made me and the baby and Sandy very happy. For dinner I had the special for the night – penne in a cream sauce with free-range chicken. Sandy had the baked stuffed chicken breast. We were both impressed. And (drum roll please) there was dessert! A trio of chocolate for me (are you surprised?) and an apple dish for Sandy.

Saturday was all about breakfast, yoga, foot therapy, lunch, napping, reading, afternoon tea, meditation and dinner. We were almost too busy winding down to ever wind back up. I came back Sunday afternoon relaxed and rejuvenated having spent some really good quality time with my bestie. As a note: don’t go to Ste Anne’s with anyone you’re not totally in love with. Sandy and I can easily talk for weeks…or sit in silence and read with no pressure to say a word.

I want to thank the incredible staff at Ste. Anne’s for making our stay so incredible. It is a vacation we’ll never forget and…we’ll be back! For reservations go to their website http://www.steannes.com or call 1-888-346-6772.
