Care and maintenance of your make-up tools is essential to ensuring they last you a lifetime. Regular cleaning of your tools will help to keep your complexion clearer, and your make-up colours more true.
The Quick Fix! This is the tried and true easy way to keep things fresh, especially when you have recently changed from one shade to another.
Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a paper towel, until the towel is damp but not soaked. Simply sweep your brushes over the alcohol to remove old makeup and dust particles, etc. Your brushes will clean quickly and dry almost instantly.
The Thorough Job! This is something you should try to do every 3-4 weeks to ensure your brushes are in peak condition. Start by filling a large bowl with lukewarm water and a little soap - dish detergent works perfectly! Gently swirl your brushes through the water until they appear to no longer be releasing colour.
Rinse brushes to remove soap, being careful to hold the brush end down and away from the running water.
Shake brush to remove excess water and use your hand to form the end of the brush again. Set brushes on a towel to dry.
Small brushes should dry in approximately 1 hours, and larger brushes should be dry in 2-4 hours.
Also, be sure you’re not overlooking your other tools. Eyelash curlers should have their pad replaced often to reduce eyelash breakage.
Pouring alcohol through your pencil sharpener will help to eliminate bacteria and should be done frequently.
