Makeup brushes come in a wide array of shapes, styles, materials and cost ranges. Most of us are content to use old or poor quality tools to apply our makeup - and many of us use whatever tools are included with the cosmetics when we purchase them. Although cosmetics can be applied with a variety of tools including Q-tips and your fingers - a great base of standard tools will help you to achieve the best and most dramatic array of results, no matter what the occasion!
The following eight brushes are something you really should add to your make-up set if possible. Good quality brushes last longer - so make this along term goal and add a quality brush to your set every month or so until you have everything you need.
Kolinsky Sable or Synthetic Brush: Used to apply creamy make-up products like concealer and cream foundation. The brush should be stiff to properly hold and spread the product.
Large Powder Brush: The soft dome shape delivers powder products quickly and effectively over entire face, neck, chest and shoulders. Also great for bronzing and sparkling powders and freshening of skin throughout the day.
Multi-Purpose Sift Fluffy Brush: This is a great tool to use for powdering corners, shadow base, face highlighting and blending eye make-up.
Stiff Angle/Slant Brush made in either Sable or Synthetic: This brush is used for defining and colouring eyebrows, eye lining and applying dramatic eye make-up with wet or dry powders.
Quill Shape Brush: This brush is made of squirrel bristles and is used to define the eye’s crease or accentuate it with colour. Smaller versions of this brush, which resemble a tiny pointed eraser, are great for “smudging” eyeliner.
Brow/lash Grooming Brush or Comb: A tidy set of brows can make a huge difference in the overall appearance of your face. Whether you pluck or not, neatly groomed brows are essential and can be attained with a simple combing.
Blush Brush: in pony/goat blend. The quality of the hairs really helps to capture the blush and apply it to skin in a natural manner. Practically fool proof!
Lip Brush: in synthetic or sable to define and fill the lips.
