Kicking It Up A Notch

March 31, 2011

This is Day One.

Well not really because Day One was about a month ago when I first posted a blog entry on Citytv’s  Biggest Loser Challenge…also known as Fit for Vic (toria Day Weekend…get it?).

As you can see in my last post, the biggest step I made so far was meeting Stephanie Joanne who will here on in be known as Stef. Stef is the wonder women in charge of Extreme Fitness and the amazing inspiration dragging about 40 of us out of bad-health hell into good-health heaven. I started working with Stef in little bits and pieces after that first assessment. But she has decided that we need to kick it up a notch. And by kick it up a notch I mean blow my fitness level right outta the water.

You may be shaking in your boots a bit right now.

I know I am.

But I also feel more capable than ever of taking the next giant plyometric step to real, lasting good health. And so, with being as deep as a puddle, I have decided I REALLY want to fit into REALLY tight pants.

Just joking.

Not really.

Who doesn’t want to look slammin’ in a swimsuit?

But Stef has made me aware that I need to broaden my focus over the next month. She plans on being brutally honest about it too. Just read her part of this blog below.

Before we get there though I’ll give you some idea of what’s happening staring April 1st. While I’ve been fairly good at keeping my portions in check and eating healthy about 80% of the time, over the next month I will be eating (fingers crossed) cleaner than I’ve ever eaten before.

Stef has been gauging my fitness level and trying to build my endurance and strength up throughout the month of March. So the 153 pounds and 33 per cent body fat from our first assessment has already gone down. She won’t tell me how much though because if the number isn’t as low as I want it to be I will likely down a box of cookies. This is what I do. As I mentioned…we have a lot to work on.

We’ve discovered over the past month that my core strength is virtually non-existent.

And you thought I was fit? Ha! So did I!

Apparently my two babies have done more than expand and then deflate my boobs. They have also completely blown out my core and I’ve done little to gain it back.

I also have a crappy relationship with food and am an emotional eater (surprise, surprise) through and through. Over the next month I won’t be eating less…just smarter. And I’m trying out Stef’s own MyProtein brand once or twice a day. Thank goodness for chocolate flavoured anything. I would be in trouble without it.

I know you’re looking for more details but Stef’s plan is to give you little tidbits here and there and when I reach my goal spill all the beans on my highly regimented plan.

By the end of April I hope to be able to do over 30 push-ups (the boy kind), get my body fat down under 30 per cent and be able to run to the nearest bikini store and want to try them on in front of an audience.

Am I asking too much?

Now it’s Stef’s turn:

Tracy has been working super hard! She is doing great and more importantly getting stronger and stronger. What I can tell you guys is that this is one woman on a mission!

However…we have some bad habits we need to kick.

First, she has this TERRIBLE obsession with the scale. This we had to kick…quickly (she is still having some re-lapses but we are working on this).

Second, she would go all morning until after taping CityLine without eating a meal.

Third, she wasn’t focusing on the type of exercise that will make her stronger for everyday living, also known as functional training.

I know these bad habits are common out there, so I proposed a challenge that we kick it up a notch to show that it can get done. She was already training hard and eating great. Sometimes it’s more about what and when you are doing something rather than how much of that something you’re doing.

I have her on a very regimented plan when it comes to nutrition and exercise and we are working out smarter (read: she is trying to kill me. Note from Tracy). I have posted my specific goals for her on my blog (www.stephaniejoanne.com), which are directly related to her strength and muscular endurance and of course her core. I will share with you in detail what we are doing to get her body in the best shape possible. I already let her know that the better she does, the more of our detailed plan I will share with everyone. So let’s encourage her and motivate her as she has just progressed out of her first phase of training.

Check my blog to see the workouts that we are doing and the nutritional tips that she is following to get into the best shape of her life (after two kids!). Of course I encourage you to get healthy and excited about your fitness plans too. Please feel free to ask questions, I would love to hear from you stephanie@istsports.net
