Every year in June I look forward to one event that truly puts a smile on my face. It's the Girls on The Run 5k "graduation" and it's a program I hold close to my heart. Girls on the Run teaches pre-teen girls about inner strength at a crucial time in their lives. It’s a turning point when many young girls may become disinterested in school or get caught up in body image concerns, self-mutilation, sex or any number of other brutal scenarios.
Girls on The Run puts an emphasis on becoming a good person, exercising your brain and your body and feeling good about your choices and options.
I love this.
It’s a message I will spend most of my days as a parent trying to impart on my own two children.
This year’s event took place on Saturday, June 11th. See for yourself! I asked event organizer Rina De Donato to shoot a little behind-the-scenes tape of my talk to the girls before the big race.
Enjoy!
