Tracy Moore with the straight goods on what's happening on the show and behind the scenes!
I’m not sure when it started but at some point in my life Halloween became a really big deal. It must be that perfect mix of getting to dress up AND eat enough chocolate to induce vomiting. Now that’s a good time. In any case my babies are still young so they haven’t really grasped the amazingness that is Halloween. Never mind, Momma’s got it covered.
I thought there were few people who enjoyed Halloween as much as I do…until I moved to Riverdale. Riverdale is a lovely community in Toronto's east downtown core, but feels more like a village. Every year the houses are decked out in goblins and ghouls, neighbours lounge on their porches drinking wine and giving out candy and kids run freely up and down the streets. But the big topper happens at 7:30pm and 8pm each year. The streets are shut down and a huge stage takes over. On it, dozens of performers (kids and adults) act out a Halloween play. Every year there’s a different theme and every year there is dancing, singing and very cool beats. It’s all accompanied by a huge wide screen tv, speakers on every corner and a professionally shot video. This year was no disappointment. With my baby butterfly in hand, my 3-year-old dragon on Daddy’s back and my BFF Sandy with my 3-month-old goddaughter in hand, we took our sugar high to the big show and sang our heads off.
The shooting is awful in the second video but whatever, you get the point. The first video is just a quick behind the scenes of the chaos that is sure to get worse as the kids get older each Halloween. I’ve gotta admit – I love it all.
What I didn’t shoot was the dragon out of costume and bouncing off the walls from a sugar high at 10pm…oh and the butterfly in sleeper pitching a fit for having been kept up past her bedtime. Good times all around.
Enjoy!
