In our house the Big O is the easiest way we can think of to describe my kids’ favourite medicine. We started calling it that because it sounds cool AND because my kids still pronounce thank you with a capitol ‘f’ so there’s really no chance they’d be able to say oscillococcinum.
Actually, can you say it?
Just forget the six syllables for a moment and listen to how it works. Each unit comes in its own self-serve capsule. But what’s inside the capsule is the real treat. It’s full of little “candies” as my 3-year-old calls them. And he begs me for them. All. The. Time. It’s becoming a problem really.
Generally we reach for the Big O as soon as Sidney or Eva start showing signs of flu. Every parent knows what that is for each of their children. For Sidney it is 100 per cent about his energy level. If he wakes up in the morning and isn’t asking me to help him “fix” his excavator or collect garbage in his dump truck…he’s getting the flu. When this happens he gets to have the little “candies” as many times as recommended on the oscillococcinum package.
So why use this and not the usual Tempra that most parents reach for?
Well, here’s what I’ve learned through my partners at Boiron. Tempra dulls the symptoms of flu which is why the fever will usually flare up again in a couple of hours, whereas oscillococcinum actually attacks the source of the flu.
Hey, it works for us.
The reason why I agreed to work with Boiron to tell parents about their range of products is because as a parent it’s tough to feel in control when your little ones are sick. I keep the range of Boiron products on hand so that I always feel like there’s something I can do for my child…and it’s something that won’t hurt them.
Try it and tell me what you think.
And here’s to a healthy holiday season for you and the little ones!
