The Digital (Foodie) Life - TasteSpotting (Part 5 of 5)

The truth is, I’ve always had a secret passion for food.  I’m often cruising through cook books, trying new restaurants, and discovering new cooking shows!  This CityLine blog has often been very technology-oriented, but living “The Digital Life” doesn’t always have to be “geeky.”

We live in a world of blogs, apps, smartphones, and there’s literally something for everyone!  In my online travels, I stumbled upon Andrew Dobson, a self-proclaimed “Professional Foodie,” based out of Toronto.  In the last installment of the five-part series I call “The Digital (Foodie) Life,”  I had the opportunity to chat with the founder of the dobbernationLOVES blog; and speak about décor, food styling, and the importance of food presentation.

In this final installment, I wanted to get blogger Andrew Dobson’s opinion on where to find inspiration when it comes to dinner.  He tells me that we always eat first with our eyes, and built on that concept, TasteSpotting was founded in January 2007.

Essentially, TasteSpotting is an extensive collection of eye-catching images that link to something deliciously interesting on the other side.

Dobson tells me, “Think of TasteSpotting as a highly visual potluck of recipes, references, experiences, stories, articles, products, and anything else that inspires exquisite taste.”

What’s unique about TasteSpotting is that everyone brings something to the party: the user community submits images/links from around the web; and the editorial team reviews the submissions for publishing. What finally gets served up on the site is a beautifully refined set of the community’s contributions.

Dobson likes to use TasteSpotting as a quick reference guide for menu planning or recipe development.  “You can quickly glance at hundreds of eye catching images, jot a few notes down and head to the grocery store with confidence. TasteSpotting is an excellent resource when you are starving at work, restless at 2am, or scratching your head on what to make for your next dinner party.”

Lastly, if you like to experiment in the kitchen yourself, you’re able to also become a contributor to the website by submitting your pictures and recipes.

Dobson concludes by saying that there is nothing more satisfying than showcasing your hard work in the kitchen, while networking with other “foodies” online.

Special mention and thank you goes to Andrew Dobson – creator of dobbernationLOVES.com – for contributing to this five-part delve into the trend of food and lifestyle blogging.
