Giving Thanks

Look at the photo below.

See that kid in the yellow sleeper with the huge grin? And that little pumpkin in the pink and white striped onesie?

There they are right there…my big reason for giving thanks this year.

I admit I was a little anxious about dragging my sleep-deprived self into CityLine after my maternity leave. But it has been a shockingly easy transition and I find that instead of being the stressed-out, frantic working mom I thought I would be – I’m just the opposite.

Something about baby #2 has put the power of zen in me and I feel like for once in my life I’m actually taking every day in stride.

Where is the woman who used to insist Sidney wear an outfit that matched to daycare? The mom who used to freak out if her two-year-old wasn’t in bed by 8pm? Or the lady who would insist that her babies stay away from bottled breast milk for fear they become “nipple-confused”?

Apparently that lady took a hike (Thank goodness. My husband tells me she was annoying).

Of course that’s how I’m feeling now after only a couple of weeks back in the grind. Ask me how I’m feeling six months from now and I might throw something at you. But listen, all we’ve got is this moment and right now, this moment is feeling pretty freakin’ good.

It hasn’t been a great year for my extended family.

I lost a beloved aunt and uncle within three months of each other.

But we also gained Eva Simone.

So when I sit back and calculate the losses all I can do is be happy for what (and who) is left:

Adoring grandparents who would give anything for time spent with their grandkids (free babysitting!), beautiful nieces who never cease to make me laugh (I’m talking about you Renee and Jordana), a husband who sneaks out when I’ve had a sleepless night and brings home a non-fat, no whip, decaf mocha from Starbucks for me (god bless you Lio), and an extended family who hasn’t once mentioned how big my bum looks on tv since I’ve returned from mat leave (that’s you aunties and uncles).

What more could a newly non-stressed out mom ask for?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Tracy
