Materials
- One 5 1/2" cu. ft. compressed peat moss
- One 4 cu. ft. vermiculite
- One 2 kg bag 7-21-7 fertilizer
- 1 to 2 kg grass seed
- Shovel
- Garden hose
- Garden rake
- Fertilizer applicator
Step 1 Prepare the mixture on a hard surface like a driveway or sidewalk.
Step 2 Add the vermiculite on top of the peat moss. Thoroughly mix the pile with a shovel while continuously adding water. You should be able to squeeze water out of the mixture. This process will take 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 3 Roughly spread the mixture on the lawn using a shovel.
Step 4 Evenly spread out the mixture into a 1/2" thick layer with the flat side of a rake.
Step 5 Apply the fertilizer evenly over the area using a fertilizer applicator or by hand.
Step 6 Thinly spread grass seed over the fertilizer by hand or with a rotary fertilizer dispenser.
Step 7 Water the lawn once a day for the first two weeks, then twice per week. After one month resume your regular watering schedule.
In four to six weeks you'll see a thick green lawn.
This formula covers 800 to 1,000 square feet.
