Christmas greenery adds just the right festive decorating touch indoors and outdoors. Take advantage of the different forms and varieties of evergreens to deck your halls and create beautiful Christmas containers.

Evergreen forms Ropes
  • This is a cedar and pine combination.
  • Buy spools of rope for use as garlands along stairs, railings, and mantels.
  • Every type of greenery is available in this form.
  • Best variety is available at garden centres beginning the third week of December.

Wire frames
  • Wire frame wreaths last three weeks indoors and longer outside.
  • Available in a variety of forms.

Bunches
  • The price reflects the number of stems in the bunch. Less expensive ones contain three or four stems. More expensive bunches contain 10 or 12 stems.
  • Take advantage of the variety.

Outdoor Christmas Containers Never use clay containers outdoors during the winter because they’re not designed to withstand the cold. Instead use concrete, cast iron or plastic. Fill the containers with sand and then insert evergreen bunches and other plants. If you’re looking for inspiration see the containers we’ve designed.

Container 1
  • Used red berries, pinecones, holly and evergreens.
  • Red berries act as accents.

Container 2
  • Used dogwood, magnolia and fir.
  • Simple container.
  • Created height in the centre using the Dogwood and then filled in the rest of the container with greenery.

Container 3
  • Alternative to a Christmas tree.
  • Can use a variety of greenery and build it to any height you like.
  • Simple to make. Get a concrete container. Build a teepee using 1’ x 2’ stakes and tie it off at the top using wire or string. Wrap chicken wire around the teepee. Then place the branches into the holes in the chicken wire. Finish with ribbon. If you want to add lights wrap them around the chicken wire before adding the branches.

Container 4
  • Excellent example of how to use height and size.
  • Achieved height using Dogwood.
  • Don’t be afraid of size.
