Helen Raczuk/Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Society
The Spruce Grove Grain Elevator Museum and the Stony Plain Pioneer Museum have joined forces to celebrate the agricultural roots and spirit of community with a massive threshing bee. The farmer plants the grain, 'worries it through the summer', until he can take it in. Harvest is the result of the labour of a farmer's year, but he often could not do it alone. Building on the concept of a threshing bee where neighbours helped neighbours, the two societies are helping each other to bring in the harvest and celebrate the contribution of the farmer and agriculture in general, to the growth and development of the two communities of Spruce Grove and Stony Plain. The grain will be taken from Stony Plain ( the old harvesting equipment is from the Pioneer Museum and will be brought to Spruce Grove at about 2 pm and show the process delivering the grain to the elevator. You will be able to watch grain being processed in the elevator. The Spruce Grove elevator is the last wooden grain elevator on the Yellowhead going west. Wooden grain elevators in Alberta - 244 standing and 30 are working grain elevator museums.

Larry Rosen/Harry Rosen CEO and Chairman
"Harry Rosen" is celebrating the grand opening of its latest renovation with cocktails/fashion show. The WEM store is Harry Rosen's first location outside of the Toronto market and opened in 1981. The newly renovated store will introduce new labels - such as Ermenegildo Zegna, Armani Collezioni and J. Lindeberg. The store also incorporates state-of-the-art technology in an effort to reduce the strain on our environment. The lighting has been switched from traditional 90 w lamps to new high efficiency 39 w bulbs and the flooring in one section is made of leftover scraps of wood from traditional hardwood manufacturing - bound together and finished in vegetable oil finish laid over recycled rubber trees instead of plywood. There's also increased space - nearly 11,000 square feet. Harry Rosen was founded in 1954. There are 16 stores across the country accounting for 40% of the Canadian market in high-end men's wear.
