A week-long police manhunt in Western Canada ended Friday with the arrest of an Alberta man charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of a Northwest Territories RCMP officer.
Emrah Bulatci, 23, was arrested at a home in Edmonton about 5 p.m. Bulatci is accused of murdering Const. Christopher Worden in the northern town of Hay River. Worden was gunned down early last Saturday morning while answering a trouble call near a suspected drug house in Hay River.
A police tactical squad moved into a west-end neighbourhood Friday afternoon about 2 p.m. Officials at Ormsby Elementary School decided to evacuate the facility, sending hundreds of children onto city buses for the short trip to nearby S. Bruce Smith Junior High School. Just after 3:30 p.m., police tactical units fired two concussion devices called flash-bangs into a home they had surrounded.
Two people emerged from the home and were taken into RCMP custody.
