The mother of a baby girl caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting says she will never move back to her hometown of Hobbema.
The shooting happened Sunday on the Samson Cree Nation near Hobbema. 23-month-old Asia Saddleback was hit in her chest by a bullet after it tore through the wall of the house. She is now in stable condition at the Stollery Children's Hospital, but doctors will not remove the bullet for fear she won't survive surgery.
Her mother, Candace, says this should serve as a major wake up call to the community. "It's a bad crisis in Hobbema and for people to see... it took a 23 month [year old] little girl getting shot to recognize how bad it is in Hobbema."
Police suspect the shooting could be retaliation between rival gangs. Two teenagers, 18 year old Christoper Crane of hobbema and a 15 year old boy, face more than a dozen charges each including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
