Benjamin Dussault, professional fitness trainer, provides his top five tips on how to summon the Olympic athlete in all of us (Audra Brown's story):

Everything is better in twos: Stay motivated to exercise by having a friend join in on the fun. Elite athletes often push each other to reach their goals, whether a team sport or individual, a little support from a buddy can go a long way.

Sleep is your friend…for real
: Focus, energy and your appetite can all be affected by not getting enough sleep. Everyone from your doctor to Olympic speed skater Denny Morrison would say get enough sleep or you might as well call it day.

Get your butt in gear: It is very important to try to get at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise five days a week. These 30 minute workouts could be a walk or skate around your local rink get out there try something new. Not all of us have extensive training regimes to follow but one we all need to apply is the 30/5 (30 min x 5 days a week).

Food and hydration = Fuel: A healthy, balanced diet does a body good. Any elite athlete would agree. Not only does it give your body the fuel it needs to function properly but it also gives you the energy boost you require to get everything done in a day. It is also important to stay hydrated, your goal should be to drink 2 L a day. Dehydration can reduce your calorie burn by 3 to 5%. Hydrating with electrolytes such as vitaminwater would be key for longer bouts of exercise.

A podium finish isn’t for everyone: While we all seek to reach for the stars, sometimes it’s better to set small, reachable goals before raising the bar. It took years for Olympic freestyle skier Jenn Heil to get to the elite level she is at now. Start small to achieve big!
