I have always thought that life is made up of beautiful moments, ones that make you smile years later and leave an indelible impression on your life. I want to share one that I had a few days ago at Princess Margaret Hospital.
I have been going for radiation at around the same time every morning for the past five weeks, I have seen many of the same people day after day as they too wait for their treatments. There is one woman in particular whom I saw every session, we would always smile at each other, offering silent encouragement and support. One day last week she approached me - it was her very last day of treatment. She handed me an envelope with a small handwritten card and a ring inside. The card read "Fall seven times, stand up eight." The ring was engraved with two words, "live strong." When I thanked her she told me the ring was made of titanium, "indestructible" she said, "just like us." What a gift. It helped me put things in perspective just when I needed a boost. I will never forget that moment.
I have had 27 radiation treatments so far, just three more to go, three more…..
