Canadian music's biggest night of the year has headed west.
The 38th annual Juno Awards - hosted by comedian Russell Peters - were handed out in Vancouver Sunday night. And it was a band from the west that dominated the show.
Hanna, Alberta, rockers, Nickelback, opened the show with a performance of their single "Something In Your Mouth" and collected hardware for group and album of the year and the fan choice award.
Montrealer Sam Roberts picked up the Juno for artist of the year, while Toronto rapper Kardinal Offishall brought home the award for best rap recording.
Alexisonfire frontman Dallas Green was named the top songwriter of 2009 for his side project City and Colour, and Toronto synth-pop singer-songwriter Lights, the year's best new artist. Montreal's
The Stills won two awards: best new group and best alternative album.
Another Toronto-based artists hit it big as well --- Julian Fauth,
who was recently profiled by CityNews.ca, took home the Juno for Best Blues Album (Ramblin' Son).
Vancouver legend Loverboy was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, with lead singer Mike Reno paying tribute in his acceptance speech to former bassist Scott Smith, who died in a boating accident in 2000.
