Underworld: Awakening topped the weekend box office, raking in $25.4 million, according to website
BoxOfficeMojo.com.
Red Tails and
Contraband rounded out the top three.
Red Tails, the story of African-American fighter pilots during World War II, took in $19.1 million, while
Contraband netted $12.2 million.
Mark Wahlberg stars in the thriller, playing a reformed smuggler who
takes on one last heist to help pay off his brother-in-law’s debt.
Red Tails is partially based on the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, and stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard.
Underworld: Awakening is a decidedly untrue story detailing the battle between humans and vampires and werewolves. The fourth installment of the
Underworld series was shot in 3D.
