The Vow topped the weekend box office, raking in nearly $42 million U.S.
It was one of four movies that opened with more than $20 million in ticket sales. According to website
Box Office Mojo, it’s only the second time in history that four films have made that much money in two days.
The Vow stars Toronto’s Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum as a young couple coping with memory loss.
Canada’s own Ryan Reynolds joined Denzil Washington for
Safe House. The story of a young CIA agent and the fugitive he’s assigned to monitor took in $39 million.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island took in $27.5 million, and the latest
Star Wars re-release — a 3D retelling of
The Phantom Menace — made $23 million.
