‘Safe House’ tops weekend box office

Safe House, a thriller starring Denzil Washington and Canada’s own Ryan Reynolds, topped the weekend box office, raking in $24 million U.S.

The Vow, starring Toronto native Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, was a close second. The romantic comedy took in $23.6 million according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

The films flipped positions after last week, when The Vow took in a whopping $42 million and Safe House made $39 million.

After a long weekend that included Family Day in Canada and President’s Day in the United States, Ghost Rider 2, starring Nicholas Cage, took in $22 million.
