Tom Cruise Hits Toronto To Promote WWII Drama

Don't be surprised if you see one of Hollywood's biggest stars on our streets over the next 48 hours.

Tom Cruise is in Toronto for a two-day media blitz to promote his latest film, World War II drama Valkyrie. In it, Cruise plays a German officer who led a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler during the war and take control of the military. It's based on true events.

Valkyrie opens on Christmas Day and is seen as a big test of Cruise's bankability as a star.

He's still one of the most recognized names in Hollywood, but in the past couple of years he's been making headlines for his personal life, including his marriage to Katie Holmes and his devotion to Scientology, rather than his films.

One of his last projects, the drama Lions For Lambs, was a flop, despite having a strong cast that also included Meryl Streep.

The Oscar-nominated Cruise has starred in a number of successful films over the years, among them Magnolia, Jerry Maguire, and the Mission Impossible series. He also had a memorable cameo in Tropic Thunder, released earlier this year.
