She won Hollywood’s top prize for a dramatic turn, but Sandra Bullock can still take a joke and proved to be a good sport when she picked up her Razzie on the same weekend she stepped up to accept her first Academy Award.
The 45-year-old actress gave a humorous and emotional speech at the Oscars Sunday night after she was named best actress for her performance in “The Blind Side”. While known for films that tend to please the crowds, but not necessarily the critics, Bullock faced steep competition from Meryl Streep, Gabourey Sidibe, Carey Mulligan and Helen Mirren.
“Did I really earn this or did I wear you all down?” Bullock quipped after she was handed her golden statue. She also made some quick and funny references her “feud” with Streep. They tied in the best actress category at the Critics’ Choice Awards in January and the two shared a joking kiss on stage at that ceremony.
The night before the Oscars, Bullock stepped on stage to accept a Golden Raspberry “award” for her performance in “All About Steve”. She was one of the few A-list celebrities that have attended the event that highlights the year’s worst Hollywood offerings. Halle Berry accepted her Razzie in person in 2005 for her performance in “Catwoman”.
