Matthew Bissonnette's Passenger Side is a road trip movie about two Canadian brothers dealing with a lot of personal and family
issues while living in L.A. When I caught it during last year's Toronto International Film Festival I praised it for great dialogue, a fantastic soundtrack and excellent performances by Adam Scott and Joel Bissonnette. My sentiment is shared by many as it was picked by TIFF as one of the top ten Canadian films of 2009 and also won the Citytv Award for Best Canadian Feature at the Edmonton International Film Festival.
The film is returning to Toronto for a special advance screening on April 7 at 8 p.m. along with a musical performance by Mac McCaughan & Jim Wilbur of Superchunk and Portastatic fame. McCaughan, who was also the music consultant on Passenger Side, and Bissonnette will be doing a Q&A after the screening, moderated by editor and publisher of NOW Magazine, Michael Hollett.
In a press release sent out McCaughan said, "Working on the music for Matt's movies has always been a rewarding process
because the music is as important to Matt as any other aspect of the films, but
also because he approaches film making with the same spirit that we've always
approached making music and putting out records."
Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased at Soundscapes (572 College St.), Rotate This (801 Queen St. West), and online at passengerside.eventbrite.com. Tickets will be available at the door for $25. More info on Passenger Side can be found at passengersidemovie.com.
