The neighbourhood known to many only as, the "Beach" was bustling with music lovers Saturday night, as the 19th Annual Beaches International Jazz Festival wrapped up its hottest day yet.
Queen Street East was taken over by the sweet sounds of jazz all day long and deep into the night, and it was music to the ears of the thousands that made the trip.
According to organizers it's the largest free festival in
Canada
, with more than 40 bands performing. One of those performers is young saxophonist Rob Christian, who's only 17 but loves the exposure the festival brings young musicians.
"There's tens of thousands of people that get to see you, so the little guys like me get to be seen by pretty much everyone in the city," he said.
And it's much more than just jazz. Despite its name the festival also features calypso, new age, Latin and blues music.
"It's wonderful in a city as diverse as this to see all the different types of music," said jazz fan Mark Ivens.
"It's a great opportunity for people to come out and have a good time."
The festival wraps up Sunday, for a complete list of performers
