Whitney Houston’s trademark song I Will Always Love You has shot to the top of the iTunes singles chart in the wake of the singer’s death.

Meanwhile, Houston’s Greatest Hits album was No. 2 on the “top album” chart on Monday afternoon, and Whitney Houston – The Ultimate Collection was at No. 3.

A spokesperson from iTunes would not comment on the numbers.

Houston died Saturday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton, hours before she was due to attend Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party there. She was 48.

An autopsy has been performed, but the cause of death won’t be disclosed until toxicology reports are completed which could take several weeks.

Houston covered I Will Always Love You — the song was originally written and performed by Dolly Parton — for her 1992 film debut The Bodyguard.

The song broke huge sales records and quickly became associated with Houston. When it was released, it was the bestselling single by a female artist in music history, and the album The Bodyguard sold more than a million copies in a week – it’s still among the top-10 bestselling albums of all time.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody, another hit for Houston, was at No. 15 on the iTunes singles chart on Monday, and Greatest Love of All was at No. 26.

During her 25-year career, Houston won six Grammys and more than 400 other awards.

On Sunday, Jennifer Hudson honoured Houston at the Grammy awards with a rendition of I Will Always Love You.
