If you like movies, karaoke and Halloween, prepare to get excited.
Seven years ago Dylan Reibling and some friends decided a fake prom would be grounds for a good party.
Seven years later and the event's an annual Toronto tradition that brings out hundreds.
Now the nonsensical celebratory vibe that makes Fake Prom so much fun is spilling over into a new event Reibling and his co-conspirators have cooked up just in time for Halloween.
Movieoke.
The first installment will be Halloween-themed and go down Friday, October 30.
But just what is movieoke?
“Movieoke is movie karaoke,” Reibling explains.
“A classic film scene is projected on the big screen and audience members are invited to come up on stage and deliver the dialogue in their own unique way. With the help of subtitles, movieoke-participants can give a straight-up version of their chosen scene, or add their own personal touches - costumes, accents, homemade sound effects, music, whatever. It's all up for creative interpretation in the world of Movieoke film-jamming.”
Halloween Movieoke will be held at new Dundas/Ossington hotspot The Garrison (1197 Dundas St. W.), adding an edgy and potentially booze-fueled element to the undoubtedly zany proceedings.
The event is free, 19+, sponsored by Suspect Video and kicks off at 9pm.
