Beyonce made history at the Grammys Sunday night, taking home six of the coveted trophies -- more than any woman in the 52-year-history of the show.

Four of her nods happened during the non-televised pre-show. She received the Song of the Year award for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)", but she didn’t step on stage to pick it up as she was prepping for a performance. She stepped up to pick up the Best Female Pop Vocal prize for her ballad “Halo”.

Her full haul included:  Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song, and Best Contemporary R&B Album.

Taylor Swift was the other big winner of the night, pulling in four awards, including Album of the Year. Another major highlight of the night for the 20-year-old country singer was her duet with rock legend and former Fleetwood Mac front woman Stevie Nicks. The pair belted out the classic “Rhiannon” and Swift’s “You Belong With Me”.

Kings of Leon won Record of the Year and the Zac Brown Band was named Best New Artist.

There were a number of eye-popping performances, and not surprisingly, Lady Gaga was among them.  She was tossed into a bucket of fire while performing her hit “Poker Face”. She emerged with Elton John.

Tenor Andrea Bocelli and Mary J. Blige offered a touching rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” in honour of Haitian earthquake victims. Pink looked as though she’d joined the cast of Cirque du Soleil with her silky suspension performance “Glitter in the Air”.

And Celine Dion, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson and Carrie Underwood came together on stage for a 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson.
