It’s often a good news/bad news situation for Torontonians.

The Canadian National Exhibition opens Friday with several neat new features and delicacies, but the event also marks the unofficial end of summer.

This is the Old Lady by the Lake’s 132nd year and the latest edition offers some interesting new additions and will of course include many traditional favourites.

Mana: Cirque Fantaisiste will take to the stage when the sun goes down, featuring illusionists, acrobats and pyrotechnics; professional motorcyclists will perform amazing stunts in the Globe of Death; Gloria Gayner, Kim Mitchell and Bedouin Soundclash are among this year’s entertainers and the exhibits include a history of rock and roll and a sand sculpting competition.

And then there’s the food. While many head to the EX in anticipation of tiny powdered doughnuts and corndogs there are several new offerings this year including deep fried butter, a cheeseburger in a bag and deep fried mac n’ cheese.

You can expect old favourites, including the Air Show, the Horse show and the Super Dogs.

The fair runs through to Sept. 6.

An adult ticket costs $16, $12 for seniors and children under 13. A CNE family pass will run you $48.
