Family Of Toronto Woman In Mexican Hospital Says She's Being Kept From Coming Home

A GTA woman currently in a Mexican hospital is being kept from returning home, her family alleges.

Victoria George, 29, was vacationing with her husband and son near Cancun when she fell ill on April 22.

"The day before she was to come back home, [Wednesday] morning, she had a very severe asthma attack," her mother Pauline George related on CityOnline Monday.

"There was also, perhaps, some cardiac distress, and ultimately it ended with her being in ICU."

Victoria is now stable and good enough to fly and Pauline just wants her daughter home. But, she claims she's been told there won't be a bed for her in a Toronto hospital - even though many are available.

Pauline believes that it's a fear of Swine Flu that is keeping her daughter out of the country, a fear she says is unfounded.

"The attending physicians in Mexico have confirmed that her illness has absolutely nothing to do with the current outbreak," Pauline explained.

At first, Victoria was told she would not be allowed back in to Canada because there was a bed shortage. But on Monday, Pauline claimed that was not the case anymore.
