There are all kinds of closets in your daily life - the one put your old shoes in, the ones that hold the family skeletons and for some, the ones they come out of.

But the truth is closets are one of the most ignored but vital spaces in your home - and most people don't give them a second thought until they can't find something they need or simply run out of room to put the next item away.

The answer to the question 'what's in your closets?' is sometimes answered by puzzled looks and blank stares, as homeowners admit they're really not sure after so many years of putting stuff in - and not taking anything out.

With space in most homes always at a premium, you might be surprised at the cottage industry that closet clean-up and organization has become. There are literally dozens of firms who claim they will reorder your cluttered life for a fee and make it easier for you to finally clean up that mess you've been meaning to get to for the past decade or more.

Consumer Specialist Jee-Yun Lee's contest to find just the right winner aired on CityNews at Five and Six Monday and the woman who won was a cancer survivor who never lost hope. She'll show you how the experts helped her clean up her mess on Tuesday's show.

But you don't necessarily need to hire someone to help you. There are lots of ways to get started on your long overdue spring cleaning. Here are just a few of them.
