Three family members, including a teenage girl, are dead after an apparent double murder-suicide in the east end early Sunday.
Officers were called to a townhouse on Wakunda Place, in the O'Conner and Victoria
Park area, around 3:30am Sunday where they found two females who were pronounced dead at the scene.
One of the victims is a 36-year-old woman and the second, her 14-year-old daughter.
Authorities say the mother had obvious signs of trauma to her body while the child did not. A short time later
, authorities arrived at a nearby high-rise apartment on Sunrise Avenue where they found the body of the girl's father.
Police believe the 40-year-old man committed suicide - he reportedly jumped to his death from a ninth-floor apartment.
The province's Special Investigations Unit was contacted because the man is reported to have called police before his fatal fall.
"He just indicated that he killed his wife and daughter, where we could find them and that he intended to take his own life," said Homicide Squad Det. Sgt. Peter Callaghan.
Neighbours say the man was a quiet type that kept to himself, but those that knew him suggest he was prone to episodes of paranoia and had a history of mental illness.
"Why it's happened because of the sickness," said family friend Guru Nathan.
"I told him, 'go for temple and pray.'"
Forensic investigators filled several bags with potential evidence from a nearby dumpster (pictured).
The couple reportedly had two other children, ages seven and nine, who are said to be in the care of relatives.
"I don't know that we'll ever know why she (the deceased daughter) was chosen and why the other two were left alone," said Callaghan.
Elsewhere, police in York Region are investigating another apparent domestic tragedy and have charged a Markham man with second-degree murder in connection to the death of his wife.
Thirty-one-year-old Thayalini Subramaniam's body was found Saturday morning in the garage of the couple's Kruger Road home. Police are hoping an autopsy will help determine the cause of death.
The suspect, 39-year-old Sugirthanraja Kailayapilai was scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court Sunday.
And the search for the person who shot and killed 41-year-old
Mervyn Spence Saturday morning outside a Brampton nightclub continues.
Police are hoping surveillance video from a local plaza will provide some clues.
