Daily Bread Food Bank Needs Your Donations

It's a need that never goes away, a hungry desperation that becomes particularly acute at this time of year. And it begs the question: what would happen if they ran out of food at the Daily Bread Food Bank?

No one wants to find out the answer to that question, of course, and with your help, they never will. But hard times have left many with hard decisions and donations to Toronto's biggest charitable pantry are way down. It comes at a time when many have lost their jobs and are forced to depend on the helping hand.

But efforts are being made to restock the larder before the Christmas season leaves many going without.

It started Wednesday at five TTC subway stations, where donations to feed the need are ongoing.

You can bring a non-perishable item to specially placed boxes at Kennedy, Kipling, Finch and Downsview stations during regular subway operating hours, with a special container also available at the Yonge-Bloor terminal during the morning and afternoon rush.

Thousands pass right by them on their way to work everyday and it's easy to simply drop something in as you hit the trains. Donations will be accepted right through January 2nd.

Can't make it through The Better Way? We've got Another Way - come down with your donation to the BT Spirit of the Season event beginning Friday morning at the Sheraton Centre. (Find more information here.)

What should you bring to help set this table?

Here's the list of the most needed items:

  • Peanut butter
  • Baby formula and food
  • Canned fruit or vegetables
  • Canned fish or meat
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Rice
  • Lentils
  • Cans of stew or hearty soup
  • Powdered, canned or tetra pak milk
  • Cans of beans

Or you can donate to the Daily Break Food Bank here.
