Experts are now saying that soy-based formulas should be the last choice when it comes to feeding your baby.
Breast milk is best, and cow's milk comes closest to mimicking the nutrient dense drink.
Soy is also a Phytoestrogen, a plant based estrogen, and it's difficult to ascertain what effects it could have.
"Babies who are given soy formulas do have more of these phytoestrogens in their blood," admits
Daina Kalnins, Registered Dietician, Sick Kids.
"W
hat effect it has on their health later on is really unknown at this point."
"It isn't recommended that premature infants get soy formulas, but other infants do grow well on soy formulas."
