Katrina LeCavalier is a
28-year-old woman living with alopecia, an auto-immune disease that caused her to lose most of hair.
She knows the difference a good hairpiece can make. Her current wig doesn't fit her propery.
To that end, she's getting some help. LeCavalier headed out to the
Cerilli Beauty Centre in
Richmond Hill to begin fittings for a brand new, better-fitting hair piece - at no cost.
"Thank you so much," she gushed. The offer came from Elline Surianello, no stranger herself to female baldness. She's the president, and first client, of
Le Metric hair.
She was unimpressed with what LeCavalier walked in wearing. This wig "really isn't made for anybody like us. This is made for someone who has chemotherapy. Their hair's going to come back."
In their case, they need something more permanent. Something like what Mary, another of Cerilli's clients, is getting.
Mary describes her hair loss as sudden. "You don't notice it overnight, but one day you wake up and wow!"
"There's light behind you and you see, you know, holes in there and then you realize that, you know, there is a big gap there." That's why Mary decided to come in.
She's getting her piece now and her reaction was surprising.
"
It's too much hair!" she giggles.
Meanwhile, LeCavalier is being fitted with a plastic cap.
"You can already feel the difference between this fit and that," Surianello points out.
LeCavalier agrees, saying the old wig was "very loose."
Laura DiBattista will reveal the new Katrina Friday on
CityNews at Five and Six.
