Out Of Work Couple Begin Baseball Sojourn To Find A Job - And T.O.'s On The Tour

Can't find a job? Go to a ball game.

That's the philosophy of two job seekers, who have apparently stumbled on a way to make the often painful process of looking for work a lot more entertaining.

Roberto Coquis and Judy Pino both lost their jobs with the U.S. government when the Obama administration took over from the Bush regime in the White House. The couple had just welcomed their first child and in hard times, it seemed like the family would be struggling.

When a job offer in Indiana dried up, they decided to take advantage of their rare summer off and hit the road, hoping to drop off resumes along the way. And that's how the idea of visiting baseball ballparks to find work was born.

The trio - with little Sophia onboard - plan to visit 30 different ballparks during the summer months, hoping to land positions as communications specialists with whoever might need one. Their dream is to end up actually working at one of the very parks they're visiting.

The Cincinnati couple has already been to their hometown park, along with Chicago (Cubs and White Sox), New York (Mets and Yankees) and plan to hit the stadiums that are home to Atlanta, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, Minnesota, Los Angeles and Milwaukee between now and the end of July.

They'll see the rest of the ballparks over the following two months, using up their nest egg in the adventure of a lifetime and hopefully, landing a gig as a result of it.

"Some say we are crazy to take this on with a baby, but to us it will be an opportunity to learn about the uniqueness of each baseball park, its fans, our great country, and most importantly, each other," they write on their website

They're Americans and likely couldn't work in Canada, but the Rogers Centre will still be one of their stops. The local visit will come on September 3rd, and they might want to get their tickets in advance - the Jays are playing the Yankees that night and it's usually a sell-out.

They likely should have been here this week. As longtime Reds fans, they have a preference for the National League. And they'd feel right at home in T.O. over the next few days - the Jays begin a three game series against the Big Red Machine on Tuesday, as inter-league play continues.

But the family insists they're not homers. "Many ask us whether we are following a specific team during our tour," they note on the site. "The easy answer is no. We are visiting all 30 ballparks and have made the commitment to support the home team of the park we visit."

The job hunt/baseball orgy ends in Camden Yards in Baltimore on September 15th.

The child is tagging along with them on their unusual job hunt, which is quite literally mixing business with pleasure.

And if they don't find work out of their sporting sojourn? The couple is raising money through their site and they'll donate whatever they make to charity in their daughter's name.

Now all they need is a would-be employer to play ball.
