Environmentalism and consumerism don't exactly go hand in hand, but one green-thinking Toronto man believes we can soften our shopping footprint by reducing the size of our receipts. 

Martin LeMoine came to the realization that receipts were wasting precious resources when he collected four pounds of the paper over three years.  

"I did some math," he begins.  "That's 4 pounds of paper for a family of 6. And if you take a population of the G.T.A, of about 7 million people, it would translate to about 5 million pounds of paper over a period of the three years."

Some receipts are as large as 8-and-a-half by 11, and LeMoine believes reductions should be made.

"If the presidents or the C.E.O.'s of the companies that were printing these receipts realized how much paper they're wasting, maybe they would think about reducing those receipt lengths," he adds.
