If it weren't for those ubiquitous dollar stores that have popped up everywhere around the G.T.A., you couldn't be blamed for thinking it's almost impossible to afford to live in this city.
But we've still got it a lot better than some other people who call a big metropolis home.
A new survey claims the most expensive place on earth to live is Moscow. The Russian capital has overtaken Tokyo as the costliest city on the planet in which to reside. According to Mercer Human Resource Consulting, a surge in real estate sales has caused the Russian boom.
Seoul, South Korea was second.
Toronto was there, too - but not even close to the majors. We're 47th, the only Canadian city in the Top 50. It's an increase from 82nd place in 2005.
Mercer blames the surging Canuck buck and rollicking Canadian economy for the big jump.
The annual survey ranked 144 cities around the planet for things like transportation, food and housing. The information is designed to warn companies about the most expensive places to do business and advises them how to properly compensate executives who may have to move there.
All of the Top Ten this year were overseas, with the exception of New York City, which tied for 10th spot.
