Bloor St. Condo Draws A Crowd As Units About To Go On Sale

It's going to be an historic condo development - at 80 storeys the tallest residential tower in all of Canada.

So it's no surprise that a week from when units go on sale there's already a lineup outside the 1 Bloor condo sales office at 33 Bloor St. East.

Prospective buyers held places in line for real estate agents, who'll take over next week when the residences hit the market. They didn't seem to mind the cold, wet weather if the final result was a spot at one of the biggest downtown intersections, Bloor and Yonge.

"I'm here representing a real estate agent and they're going to be the first people to buy these condos over here," said Jeremy, one of those waiting it out.

Jessica, another chilly but patient individual in line said, "The people we're representing are going to take over on Monday so they can be here for the crucial bidding moments.

And Kristal didn't seem too uncomfortable, saying she "came prepared."

"I have a buggy full of stuff, three blankets here," she added.

As for some of the people holding the cash and standing to make more, they're already counting their proverbial chickens. Real estate agent Hersh Litvak paid 11 people to stand in line for condos he says he's already sold.

"They're sold already," said Litvak. "We've already got orders for them ... everybody standing in line here is sold."

The sales office opens for business next Tuesday. The 1 Bloor condo isn't expected to be finished until 2011 but when it's complete it will be the tallest residential tower in all of Canada.

But to live in this exclusive address isn't cheap - luxury suites start at $300,000 and run up to $18 million for the penthouse suite.

It's further proof the condo market in Toronto is still booming, with 2007's sales numbers poised to beat the all time record set in 2005.
