Mild winter means travel deals abound

While Toronto and much of the GTA are enjoying an especially mild winter, the warmer-than-usual conditions mean deals and steals are available for those looking to get away.

“Mild winters just mean bookings have been a bit slow, everybody’s nervous, so prices are low, low, low just to attract those people,” said Stuart Morris, vice-president of travel agency Thomas Cook Canada.

Morris pointed out some flights to Florida that are available for under $5 (not including the taxes).

Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic are the cheapest tropical destinations. The only exception is March break, where prices are traditionally high.

And despite the latest violence in Mexico and illnesses in Cuba, travel agents say there's no drop of business this week in bookings for those two countries.
