Wal-Mart Canada plans to spend $750 million on its stores in the country over the next fiscal year.
The money will go to opening, relocating, or remodeling 73 locations, including 39 former Zellers locations, the company said in a press release on Tuesday.
The move will create 14,000 jobs, including in-store positions and trade and construction jobs, Wal-Mart said.
Half of the projects will be SuperCentre locations, which sell groceries, and the other half will be discount stores.
By the end of January 2013, there will be 375 Wal-Mart stores in Canada.
