Pepsi is rolling out a new “mid-calorie soda” to lure health-conscious soda drinkers who don’t like the taste of diet pop.
Pepsi Next — which has half the calories of regular Pepsi and 60 per cent less sugar — will be rolled out in the U.S. in March, according to The Associated Press. There’s no word on when it will be available in Canada.
Pepsi says the 60-calorie soda tastes more like its regular product than diet. Besides sugar, it’s made with three artificial sweeteners and high-fructose corn syrup.
Similar products — Coke’s C2 and Pepsi Edge — were taken off the market in 2006 after years of poor sales, AP says.
Since the middle of the last decade, people have been shunning sugary drinks and turning to water and other lower-calorie options.
